Nova Scotia Day 11 - Whale "Watching" and Digby to Halifax

I had been looking forward to whale watching in Digby for a long time. The experience was expected to be a highlight of our journey. The forecast looked favorable on Saturday - and we were set and ready to go.

We awoke to heavy fog with misty rain, suited up, and set out on the short ride south from Digby on the Digby neck. The ride required two ferry rides to get us to our destination on Brier Island.

Finally arriving on Brier Island, we connected with our charter service, Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises, to get ready for our excursion. We had chartered a 12-person Zodiac for a private experience. Hedging against the weather, we had arrived early, got checked in and ready, and hoped the fog would lift. This wasn't really the case, and we launched with limited visibility.

Our captain was great, and searched diligently for whales, but we were disappointed as our search proved futile. We saw a couple of dolphins and some seals, however, so all was not lost. The boat ride in the Zodiac was fun - and we finally gave up and headed back to the dock. Oh, well... Here are a few pics from the experience:

Giving up on the whales, we headed back to Digby via the two ferries, grabbed lunch at a harbor-view restaurant, then set out for Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia. We had dinner together and called an end to Day 11 of this grand adventure.
